Because I am bored and frustrated...

What kind of knitting needles are you?

You are pink aluminum.Retro, straightforward and fun, you love classic things. If they're 99 cents at Goodwill all the better! You are moved by striking colors and tasty morsels, and you like a stitch-n-bitch session in the sun. Just remember, while you're being kitschy cool, don't get too cold. Ice cubes are best kept in your cocktails, baby!

I am squishing your head.

So. Damn. Gah. Yay. Blast. Huzzah. Stop staring at me.

That sums up my last few days of knitting. (apparently I can draw attention by knitting on campus. It makes me friends!)

I'm trying to adapt Knitty's Lickety Split to my big feet. I've cast on for the large toe cap about 3 times now. And I think I've got it down. I'm now working on the big toe cap. Or I would be if my co-worker hadn't taken ill, thus requiring me to go to work on my one day off.

I've also become addicted to LimeNViolet, they have topped DFA 1979 on my knitting list. I listen to them on campus, and even at my best, I can't fully muffle my laughter and giggles at their podcast. Add that to me showing countless emotions over a sock, and well, I'm a big of a spectacle. They also have a forum at www.limenviolet.com/mb I am a member, it is fun. Go give them some love.

Socktober 2006!

*sings* You and me, and me and you...mumblemumble so happy togetheeeeeeer*/sings*

I just really really like these two colours together. Am I weird that way?
First dishcloth in blue/teal in "Basketweave", and excellent simple easy in between class knit. Secondly, "Plaid". And may I just say "Oh my. Oh my yes." The pattern is nice, also inter-class worthy, but the texture of this knit up is just. Oh wow. My fingers have never been so happy. Actually... it's the texture of the BACK of the pattern. If noone else is willing to knit it themselves, I will be willing to mail it to you to feel. It is that good. Really.

Ok. So. October is fast approaching (September, where did you go?). And with October comes... Socktober 2006! It sounds delightful, in fact I have signed up already. There is no competition, so swaps, no deadlines, simply a celebration (public and private) of socks. Hey. I love socks, so why not?

I picked up some yarn for Socktober from the delightful LYS today (I wonder if they know I blog. I doubt it. Should I tell them?). It is Schoeller Stahl, Fortissima Socka in what I, at first thought was grey with red tinges, but turns out to be purple with red and green tinges in daylgiht, as well as a red for contrasting heels/toes. Oh boy. More later.

Ta Douleur

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgXUctWDF34&eurl=

Not directly knitting, but related. And clever and highly amusing.
I am also churning out dishcloths at a rate of .75/day. Turns out I can get more done between classes than I thought.

A day of note.

So on my way downtown to get art supplies for school today, I ran into my good friend M. on his way to work. We went for breakfast together before he had to open up shop. Then, I managed to acquire all the supplies I needed (and more), and, in a fit of weakness, I said to myself "I'll just drop by the city's one other yarn shoppe" (it is bigger). Well, I came away spending as much as I did on school. Oops. I also made the error of popping into a cookware shop, and came away with a purchase as well...

One ball of cotton...

+
One ball of cotton...
=
Eight balls of cotton? See people? There IS a reason I'm not taking maths courses!

And just what is this cotton destined for? Why the dishcloths from the latest knitty, of course! In the brightest colours to keep me happy and summery whilst knitting them, as Autumn has definitely staretd to set in here (only in the mornings so far). And the lovely model is the big mug I picked up at the cookware shop. It was discounted 10% due to an imperfection in the glaze? Hah, sounds like a deal to me! And it was wrapped in hot pink paper. I think it suits me, no?

Time to go cast on! Errr, practice my cursive Cyrillic I mean...

It's good my name isn't Grendel, or else this scarf would have killed me

Damn you Blogger.

*ahem*

So, you know those fall days, chilly, but sunny, which hint of some more summer?

This was not one of those. It's still summer.

It was way too hot to model a (mostly) wool scarf, But I tried.

And failed. I mean, really, out of 20+ shots of me wearing the damn thing, the only semi decent one is of my back. And my West Coast socks-with-sandals laissez-faire attitude. And because I'm told some people like these...
Pattern: Beowulf. I made it up.
Yarn: Van Dyck. 3 and a bit balls.
Needles: Aero... 7mm?
Dimensions: Taller than me, but not as wide.
Odds and Sodds: Provisional cast on. Cables. Actually a Saoxn braid. The SAME Saxon braid adornign the collar of a sweater in the new Rowan. I think.

SPC -- September Week 2

Alright. This weeks Self Portrait Challenge needs a little explanation. I am sitting in front of an elevator. Specifically, the elevator we had installed for my mother. Also, my mother has MS (Multiple Sclerosis).

And to explain why I am the only person in the photo... Well, they say image, and how you present yourself is key to how people see you. Often, that is ALL people see about my mother (especially if I'm just talking, and they've never met her). So when her symptoms and effects are all people care to see, to me that is enough.

Carrying on with the "conflict" from last week, my mother and I do not get along. At all. But she needs a fair bit of help, so I am always called upon to help. And when I try to explain the strife between us, all people want to see is her illness, never her character, who she really is. Those people will often then show great disgust towards me, treat me like a character, make me feel distorted and unreal (hence the distortion I felt like applying there).

Maybe next week will be cheerier, sorry folks. Posted by Picasa

Knitting away, on the thin ice of the new day

So. I still knit. Really I do! See?
I've gotten out of the 80-row choas theory doldrums and am fully ensconced in the braid pattern (less than two to go!). Then comes the end. Divine inspiration anyone?

It's also long. It is at nose level with me right now (I am about 6'1"), and I have about... 6 more inches to knit before ends/fringe. This is good, as nothing frustrates me more than too short scarves.

Also, I have started University. So far it involves getting my ass kicked by the Cyrillic alphaveet, reading an (excellent) essay analyzing the Alien trilogy, hearing all about the Roman lewdness that Latin will enable me to read, discovering I actually have a studio art class and loathing pyschology for being my only class on Mondays. At 7:00 PM.

And now, work calls.

Oh, and another SPC is on it's way. Posted by Picasa

SPC -- September week 1

Alright. First try at this month's Self-Portrait Challenge theme: with someone. Which I loathe.

You can catch a corner of me there in the foreground. That would be my father's back behind me (hush, baby steps, my fmaily doesn't go in for photos really). I suppose it is fitting as we often turn our backs on each other, very rarely deal face to face. Hah! How teenage do I sound? Posted by Picasa

Are not Dedd.

I'm not dead. Really. Just... not knitting. Well, I am. But progress is tedious on Beowulf right now (it's been a hot few days), and I've been busy getting set up for school.
As my books cost about half as much as I had expected, I rewarded myself with some yarn today.

This yarn is destined to be made into gloves for me. I am debating between full or fingerless (not Knucks, wrong guage), and I DO have a pattern kicking about home here that has directions for both. It's 'Grignasco - Tango', and is delighfully tweedy. 50% Virgin Wool, 25% Alpaca and 25% Viscose. Surprisingly similar to the Rowan suggested for Knucks. Only cheaper.
I am accepting suggestions for DK weight (actually 20 stitches by 32 rows, but the lady at my LYS and I think that's ok, because I knit tight enough to need adjusting anyway. And the yarn was half the price of the alternative) gloves, both full and fingerless.

On a sidenote. I do intend to stick with the SPC. I just loathe this month's theme. Posted by Picasa
