Let's start with the FO, shall we?
I finished this a couple of weeks ago, but the factors involved (being some degree of half-decent weather and me willing to go outside) kept this at bay. I just bit the bullet, and hung out in my pyjamas in the backyard this morning (as if my neighbours didn't already think I'm nuts). So they're not the beeeeest photos, but enjoy regardless.
Pattern: Koolhaas by Jared Flood (Interweave Holiday issue 2007)
Yarn: Malabrigo Worsted c.195
Needles: Bamboo DPNs (Clover) 4.0mm and 5.0mm
Size: Larger, 5 repeats
Time: A week and a half?
I definitely knit on this one during some of my... less engrossing classes, shhh.
Great pattern (as was to be expected). Awesome yarn (I know, black for cables? tsk tsk!). Overall it requires a fair bit of attention-paying, but it's quite easy to get into the groove (especially if you cable without a needle). Oh bugger, I just realized that I miscrossed a cable... design feature, anyone? I'm not sure if I would use Malabrigo for this again, it's soft, but on the other hand, it's soft, if you follow me. I am glad I knit the 5th repeat, although it is a hair too long, but that's not a big deal for me, I don't mind a little bit of a brim on this.
Verdict? I would knit it again, probably with a different yarn for fun, and if you have access to the pattern, go for it!
Ok, WIP time... Socks! (well, I need something portable while I'm working on the big project...)
I need to check with the recipient to make sure my colour choice is kosher, not that I would mind keeping this colourway for myself, so much fun! (Again, Fleece Artist basic merino sock kit, and it has great yardage! 115g for... I think it came to $23CAD?)
Have a good February peoples!
Lovely Koolhaus! It looks very cozy.
ReplyDeleteVery nice! I need to stop hoarding my yarn and actually knit this hat!
ReplyDeleteGreat hat -- I like it it in black! And I don't see any mis-crossed cables, so they don't exist. :-)
ReplyDeletenice in black!! quite the opposite from the one i did in a sort of "stone" color. although, i had more that a missed cable crossing...a whole row. baaaad. i had to frog.
ReplyDeleteThe hat is awesome, it looks great on you!
ReplyDeleteAnd those colors on the socks are pretty wild! But handknit socks are more fun if they are a bit crazy.
The hat looks great and the cables are vivid regardless of the black! I'm eager to start a pair of toe up socks myself, but I still have a few more projects to tackle before getting there. I'll just live vicariously through you in the mean time.
ReplyDeletei keep kicking myself for not buying that issue of interweave!!!!!
ReplyDeletei kinda like the black....
Awesome hat~~
ReplyDeleteIts great on you and love the block with cable stitch of hat!
Cool Cool....
Cool hat! And your neighbors don't think you are nuts they are just jealous that they don't have a cool hat.
ReplyDeleteThat sock yarn is to die for!
